Instrutment Calibration

Course Description:

We have designed an instrument calibration course to provide basic training in instrument operation principles and calibration procedures of some of the frequently used equipment in analytical laboratories. It also includes instruments which are more specific to pharmaceutical analysis laboratories. A set of practical performance verification experiments for various instruments can be included to provide hands on experience if equipment are available at the training site.

The list of instruments include:

  • pH meters
  • Analytical balances
  • Infrared spectrometers
  • Near infrared spectrometers
  • UV-Visible spectrophotometers
  • Raman Spectrophotometers
  • Liquid chromatographers (HPLC, UPLC)
  • Gas chromatographers (GC)
  • Dissolution apparatus
  • Karl Fischer auto-titrator
  • LC-MS and GC-MS

Course Outlines: The course material includes:

  • Life cycle approach to instrument and system validation
  • Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
  • Design of instrument validation and performance verification protocols
  • Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for instruments calibration
  • Requirement for instrument calibration by regulatory agencies
  • Detailed discussion on the operation principles and performance characteristics of analytical instruments listed above Experimentation to demonstrate acceptable performance characteristics for the instruments listed above
  • General acceptance criteria and expectations
  • Calibration program set up and reference standards used
